NOVEMBER SERVICE SITE OF THE MONTH
J.O.Y Ministries

We are excited to announce J.O.Y Ministries as our November Service Site of the Month for 2016. J.O.Y Ministries is a non-profit, Christian youth organization devoted to providing opportunities for youth and their leaders to serve others in Christ while being the “hands and feet” of Christ. J.O.Y recently opened a Crisis Resource Center to serve the those living in homelessness or on the edge of homelessness.  From their website:

“We started as youth leaders that took teens on mission trips across our country. In fall of 2011 God impressed on us the need of people to serve in our own community as we are surrounded by poverty, single moms and the drug culture as well as any other population that Jesus deemed "the least of these". We want to share the love of Jesus with everyone regardless of what they carry from their past or what their current situation is and show them the life change that comes with knowing our Savior!”

J.O.Y Ministries has served in various states and have been able to go and send to other countries. All of their work has shown them both the physical and spiritual needs of people around the world. All different denominations are currently working with J.O.Y Ministries to help out the community. Including: Baptist, Methodist, Christian, Brethren In Christ and Non-Denominational churches both large and small in size involved in working together to share Jesus by serving those in need. J.O.Y Ministries enlists the help of teachers, skilled laborers, various medical fields, librarians, college students, counselors and administrators to ensure they can bring as much help as possible to those in need.

"JOY Ministries Crisis Center reaches out to those that are in need in this community. I love serving here because I know that everyday I leave the center, I have made an impact on someone's life. Whether that impact be giving them food for their family, back to school clothes for their kids, or just someone to talk to and listen to them. JOY is a wonderful place that put this community (as well as surrounding communities) first.Sometimes you only see the outer appearance of a certain place or of a certain someone. Here at JOY, everyone is treated as equal. I, as a volunteer, am treated no different than the family that walks in the door and is in need of food. I've gained better experience on how to be more open-minded and also how diverse a little community can be and how to deal with that in an affective way." -Erika Squires

"The Joy Crisis Center is such a wonderful ministry to our community. It serves countless numbers of people every week! It basically saves the lives of people with the food, and provides a way for them to feel better about themselves by giving them clothes to wear that they feel confident in! Also, the center helps people find jobs and assists in other aspects of their lives.I have gained more knowledge about the poverty in our community. It has made me aware of the needs! I also have gained more sympathy for people and a love for helping others!!" -Gabby Pyles
