LWC BONNER COMMUNITY
MINI GRANTS 2016

This year’s funding was distributed to the following community partners: Adair County Primary Center/Camp Casey/Camp RockIt ($750), Agape House ($250), and The Center for Courageous Kids ($500), Camp SAFARI ($500), and JOY Ministries Crisis Resource Center ($500). The rest of the funding was used to facilitate some of the issue based team projects for the campus community such as Earth Day.

the following organizations are exclusively funded by grants and donations.

Camp Casey served over 485 students in 2015-2016. They heavily rely on the Bonner Leaders to help facilitate the following activities: Awesome Art, Get Fit Casey, Spanish, Reader’s Theater, Book Cooks, Adventures in Theater, Lego Lab, Math Tutoring, and Literacy Intervention. The money will be used to implement more parent involvement activities.  Camp Casey is one of our biggest and most dedicated partners. We will have approximately 25-30 students working there in 2016-2017. They are crucial to the educational process of which 21st CCLC Camp Casey is a big part.  In our ten year partnership, we have saved the school over $250,000. Adair County Primary Center’s mission is to be a school where all children can learn, will learn, and love to learn. They serve approximately 650 students. This is one of two county elementary schools. In this school, 72% of students are eligible for free lunch and reduced lunch. The community grant will help with literacy and math intervention.

The Center for Courageous Kids is also a dedicated partner assigning our Bonners to work Family Weekend Camps. We consistently had 8-15 Bonners volunteering here every family weekend. This camp is a unique Medical Camping Facility where children battling the most serious illnesses can attend, free of charge. They run types of programs. In the summer, the ill child (ages 7-15) attends a week long session with other children suffering from the same illness. During the school year, they hold family weekends where the child attends with his/her family. It is a great networking opportunity for the ill child to meet with other children coping with the same challenges. The Center for Courageous Kids is supported by contributions and donations from individuals, corporations, healthcare partners, foundations, and the community at large.

Camp SAFARI has been our partner for three years. Camp SAFARI (ACES 21st Century Community Learning Center) is an after-school program that was started in April of 2013. A variety of academic and enrichment activities will be offered 3:00—5:00 each day for 3rd– 5th grade students.

Through the Camp Casey and Camp SAFARI programs, PreK -5th grade students will be served on a consistent basis.

JOY Ministries Crisis Resource Center became a partner of the LWC Bonner program in April 2016 and made a commitment to house our campus kitchen this summer. They provide resources to low-income families – workshops (career educations, financial literacy, etc.), food, clothing, tutoring, etc.

The mini-grants are made available to community parnters through the Bonner program. Partners chosen have been dedicated partners to the LWC Bonner program and/or who serve as an extension of the Bonner mission.
